About the Project
It’s not what we would expect to experience when all our children are grown, but sometimes it happens! This family would soon be opening their home to a new addition: their mother.
The fact is we are all getting older. More and more we see families coming together to ensure their parents and grandparents have a welcoming and safe place to stay. How we care for our older family members is a huge responsibility, and big change is easier when thoughtfully planned. Cornerstone quickly stepped in to help.
Before Remodel
The husband, Don, is a firefighter. We were excited to help an emergency responder that saves us in our greatest times of need! His mother-in-law was joining their family soon, and they needed to ensure that she could easily access the shower without jumping over a bathtub.
At top of mind was their mother’s safety. Next concern was the deadline of her arrival. Don was so concerned that he had already completed the demo. He knew time was of the essence and we were up to the task! Lining up our resources quickly, Cornerstone began the project right away.
The Process
We met with Don and his wife, Stephanie, to choose their new shower design, select the tile and accessories they desired while keeping within their budget to convert a bathtub to a safe and functional walk-in shower.
We enjoy working with our customer’s choices for tile, but often they are at a loss for tile selection. Stephanie had not done this before and was unsure of the current trends. Don wanted to create a shower with a purposeful change to the bathroom. While browsing the wide range of tile, we suggested a fresh design with a clean look to keep Stephanie happy plus tile that contrasted just enough with their existing tile flooring to satisfy Don’s request.
Of utmost importance was ensuring their mother’s ease of use. They opted for a bench seat and a handicap bar for additional safety. We suggested including a large double niche to give their mother the much needed space to hold all her bath supplies within easy reach.
The Result
Just in time for mom’s arrival, the bathtub to shower conversion was complete! They now have a beautiful walk-in shower with a custom bench and niche, including a sturdy handicap bar for additional safety.
We were very happy to do all we could to give Don and Stephanie peace of mind for their mother’s welfare in her new home.
The family was able to welcome their mother knowing that she can easily climb into the lovely new shower customized for her needs. Not only is this upgrade adding value to their home, it was a very special way to make their lovely mom feel most welcome!
